So where is RikkiDee at?
Funny you should ask, I was wondering myself.
Since it’s the New Year, I suppose it is appropriate to discuss the highlights and low lights of 2005 and then make some sort of goals for the upcoming year. I wish I had the assistance of the makers of all those “top ten of 2005” lists that pretty much every television channel had constructed last week. Even though they are pretty devoid of any intellectual thought (“top ten celebrity breakups!”), they sure can put it in a pretty package. And that’s pretty much the only thing this blog is missing, that cool flair.
Top Ten Events of 2005:
10 - November 12th:
The simultaneous creation of the now legendary blog "Dee's Nutz" coupled with the decision to play poker as a full time income source.
9 - February 20th: RikkiDee is dealt pocket aces for the first time in his career. After a masterfully played flop, he ends up tripling up through some suckers with top pair. $25 never felt so good.
8 - August 15th:
RikkiDee finally cashes out of his original training grounds at “Bet Hold’em” with a whopping $250 after pretty much wiping out his previously much larger bankroll. He then transfers it to a site called “Poker Stars”, which turned out to be a good move, as he has detailed repeatedly in his blog. His bankroll and winnings has since grown well over $5,000 since this move.
7 - September 1st:
After reading a few poker books with limited knowledge gained, RikkiDee purchases “Harington on Hold’Em – Volume 1” and decides to read during his trip to Europe. Now, just a little background on this – up to this point in his life, RikkiDee had only read an approximated 4.2 books, and 3.2 of those he had been force fed during high school against his will. After reading this entire book in about 5 hours, he went on to re-read it approximately 5.5 more times during the months he spent in Europe. It shaped not only his tournament game, which was what the book was designed to do, but also he found it could apply to his cash game play as well, and since the final reading of the book, has gone on to enjoy greatly improved success in both arenas.
6 - March 15th:
After playing the hell out of the $0.05/0.10 tables, RikkiDee is invited into the weekly leaderboard $1000 prize pool freeroll tournament. This is his first tournament outside of little home games, and despite any tournament knowledge or experience, he manages to place 4th out of 45 for a decent prize of $80. The tournament bug burrows its way into his brain.
5 - April 20th:
After qualifying for many weekly freeroll tournaments, and subsequently giving up his entire Sunday afternoon to play in them each week, RikkiDee finally wins the whole thing, for a ridiculous win of $400. Since this was his first MTT win online, he rationally figured that MTT wins were now going to be falling in his lap like his friends mothers had been for years. 8 months later and he is still waiting for it to get easier.
4 - August 1st-4th:
RikkiDee visit’s Las Vegas – the Mecca of a budding poker player. With virtually no live game experience, he was expectedly fearful of what sharks lie await at the fabled poker tables. He then quickly realized that pretty much every player playing his limits was there for the same reason he was, to have fun playing the game they’ve started to get into. No sharks, no local players destroying the games; just everyone having a good time at the low stakes. The strange world of Vegas was becoming a bit more familiar to him. Each day he played at the 1/2 NL cash game tables, and each day he booked a profit. His confidence in his game was boosted exponentially, and the live experience garnered from this trip was priceless.
3 - August 1st:
During his first day in Vegas – after playing cash games all day at the Stratosphere, RikkiDee and his friends decided to enter a $65 buyin MTT held at the Palms casino. This would be his first live MTT, and similarly to his first online MTT, he cashed in the event with a 6th place finish for a cool $500 - his biggest payout of the year. Receiving $500 in real U.S. cash is a memory that won’t soon be forgotten – but receiving more in a future tournament will probably erase that fond moment.
2 - February 15th:
Shortly after the Superbowl ended (and hence any possible NFL betting) RikkiDee decided to take the left over money that he had in his online sports book account ($100) and transfer it to something called “online poker”. The world hasn’t been the same since that monumental event.
1 - November 30th (or what has become to be known as “black Sunday”):
RikkiDee innocently enters a 6000 FPP satellite tournament on stars after winning a previous FPP satellite. Without comprehending what is truly at stake, he manages to get heads up for the final prize of $16,000. As any reader of his blog would tell you, “he blew it” and subsequently went in to a spiraling depression that hasn’t quite cured it self to this date. However, this is a highlight due to the shear magnitude of what was at stake, and the progress he had made just to make it as far as he did.
Fluffy enough? I consulted VH1's list maker for tips.
