More cowbell

Decided to drop down in limits to try and shake this downswing (bad play?) away. It’s been a while since I played the $25 turbos, but all the same monkeys are still there. It surprises me that all the regulars are still there and not playing the $55 games yet. Too bad the pride I have from being able to have moved up to the $55 games is outweighed by the massive kick in the pride junk that I feel when I have to then drop back down.

But poker is poker and it’s really about the game right?

Right…

So I’ve pretty much done everything to shake up my brain chemistry. I started the day with a varying array of games from a 45 person tourney to a one table Omaha H/L sit&go, then to a Stud high sit&go and capped off with a fixed limit holdem game. And last night I had played a $3 rebuy satellite to the Sunday game, which I ended up winning and qualifying for. And after all that I took Scurvy’s advice and did some bonus whoring at a casino site and ended up cashing out with a cool $520, thanks!

Even after all these games I still felt like shit. But because the month isn’t getting any shorter I had to play something, so I loaded up sets of 8 - $25 turbos and played away. It’s now been 5 sets and I’m up a grand total of $25.50. I know, amazing right? No loss!

I’m still in the woe-is-me phase, over-exaggerating the pain of every lost all in where I was a massive (read: 3-2) favorite. But I do find it funny that I can’t even be confident going all in with aces anymore. I need it to be AA with an AA on the flop. No risks for me please. I’ve always hated watching the cards fall while I’m all in awaiting my fate, so usually I just play another table and then view the outcome. But now it’s become entertaining for me. Lets see how I’ll be outdrawn this time!

Before I go, I want to go over one hand that I believe is probably the worst play I’ve ever seen. Ok I know I’ve said that before, but this one is just bad on every possible level, not just a quick lapse of judgment. It’s more subtle than most bad plays, so read carefully. I hope you enjoy it.

RikkiDee said, "heh wtf"

Ok lets take a breather and examine the villans play here. He has 5c7c and the flop is 952 and he checks in first position. Someone bets followed by a call, and then a reraise and its back to him. He has a pair of 5s with no draw. Reminder; there has been a bet, a call, and a reraise. He calls. To anyone whos played poker once in their life, they know their pair of 5s arn't any good, but thats fine, I understand calling stations exist and this is a pretty standard calling station play. Alright the turn pairs the 2. The fish throws out a pretty pointless 120 bet, probabbly trying to either represent the 2 or just trying to avoid me reraising again. Now at this point I'm putting him on one of two hands, a draw (34 or hearts), or a big hand trapping (99,55,22). I decide to once again reraise as odds are he is still drawing. His call tells me he is drawing as anyone with a boat here is pushing against my aggression. The river comes paring the 5 now, his best card he could have hoped for. This time he checks, risking me checking behind. Luckily I throw out a small value bet hoping to make some money off perhaps a horribly played 9 or a frustrated Ace high busted flush draw. Of course he just calls my small bet with what is at this point is pretty much the nuts.

I have 4 questions for him.

Why did he check/call the flop with what was obviously the worst hand?
Why did he lead out on the turn with a pair of 5s?
Why does he call my reraise again with a pair of 5s on the turn?
Why did he just check/call the river when he has the almost nut full house?

I realize this tale is pretty standard at a glance but it truly boggles my mind. I truly wish I could ask him these questions in person to figure out the logic of a fish.

My next post will be positive and entertaining I promise.
