Whats in a blog title?
I've definitely been craving some live poker action lately, especially since my confidence is at an all time high. I would get an unimaginably large boner from check raising some douche bag WPT fanboi with sunglasses and an ipod. Conversely - losing to said fanboi may cause me to descend into an insurmountable depression. Such are the risks inherent with poker. I here there is a live game that regularly goes on above a head shop (obv). Methinks I'll be hitting that up before the New Years.
Also I'm hosting a cash poker game over the holidays with my close friends that will involve copious amounts of swearing, drinking and naked ladies. Unfortunately they are all sold out of naked ladies so I had to replace them with mushrooms. Equally entertaining, although in a much different way. I've never played poker on mushrooms before and I'm actually pretty excited. I've always felt that while on them I have a heightened sense of, well, everything and that I could read people with diamond cut precision. This feeling is probably bullshit and will be put to the test. What will also be interesting is that everyone (well the guys who still have their nuts attached) will be doing shrooms as well. This will probably lead to the slowest game in the history of poker, but damn it if its not the most entertaining one.
I've always been pretty fearless when it comes to most of my opponents in poker. In the past I ignorantly attributed this to my innate awesomeness and never thought twice about it. However, lately I've realized that my risk-averse ways probably have lead to this phenomenon as I basically never move up out of my comfort zone and hence have always felt confident. I know the truly great players all have played out of their comfort zone many times in order to move up the ranks. Surely they occasionally paid the price for their risks but in the long run it clearly has paid off for them. Playing against better players, for higher stakes will undoubtedly improve your game, as well as keep you focussed on the game itself. I honestly doubt I will ever be in the upper echelon of players as, while I am a competitive person, I just don't have the amount of "gamble" needed to succeed at high levels (and to move up aggressively in stakes).
Take me out of my comfort zone and I'll crash and burn. Keep me in it and I'll slowly succeed.
In other news, tomorrow I'll be taking the final steps towards getting my own radio show. My friend and I (who will be co-hosting the show with me) have been volunteering occasionally at the local university radio station and tomorrow we will be running our first "mock" show for the producer. We haven't finalized what our show will be about yet but we have some ideas that we hope will lead to an evolution of sorts to a unique, consistent show. Its only an hour long each week, so the time commitment isn't large but it will provide me with great experience in radio and will definitely be a lot of fun.
And heres a video of two chicks having an extended slap fight. I'm really impressed as to how long they go for.
Heres my current favorite commercial on TV.
